Police are investigating the death of an infant on Sunday in northeast Albuquerque.
An Albuquerque Police spokesperson says the death occurred in the 3500 block of Lafayette Drive NE. Authorities said they do not know the circumstances surrounding what happened to the infant at this time.
Officers and detectives were seen going in and out of the area. The New Mexico Children, Youth & Families Department (CYFD) was also at the scene.
Jeffrey Martinez lives across the street from the scene and said he did not hear any commotion inside the building. He said he realized something was wrong when law enforcement arrived.
“I was trying to figure out what it was because I heard no racketeer. [There was] no noise, no gunshots. No one yelling. It happened very quietly,” Martinez told KOAT Action News.
He said the street typically sees a lot of activity.
“There’s a lot of drug activity in the street, and it brings in a lot of people, but it’s also safe,” he said. “I’ve lived here for seven years and I love living here.”
