Woman Escapes After Man Allegedly Traps Her in Santa Fe Restroom; Suspect Arrested

A woman reported that Alexander C. Corvison, 35, allegedly followed her into a restroom and held her against her will, leading to his arrest.

Santa Fe police arrested a 35-year-old man for alleged kidnapping and battery. Authorities said he followed a woman into a restroom and held her against her will.

Police responded to 122 West San Francisco St. at about 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, after a caller reported that a man had followed her into the women’s restroom at the Plaza Mercado. She told officers he would not let her leave.

Authorities identified the suspect as Alexander C. Corvison. He also had an active arrest warrant for indecent exposure.

Based on their investigation, officers learned that the woman had been shopping at Plaza Mercado. She saw Corvison sitting in the patio area when she arrived, they said. The woman went to the restroom door, entered the access code, and walked inside.

She claimed she saw Corvison follow her into the restroom. She added he rushed toward her with both hands on his beltline.

Corvison allegedly physically held the woman in a corner with his upper body as she tried to escape. She told investigators she thought he was trying to take off his pants.

The woman managed to break free from Corvison and ran out of the restroom, shouting for help. She called her father, who located the suspect. She and her father stayed on the phone with police until officers apprehended him.

The Santa Fe Police Department asks anyone who witnessed the incident to contact their office.
