The increasing number of wildfires in the states has urged Santa Fe National Forest moving the fire restrictions to Stage II starting 8 a.m. Friday, June 26.
Under the order, people must not build, maintain, attend, or use a fire, campfire, or charcoal, coal, or wood stove fire.
Meanwhile, you may smoke only within a confined space, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all burnable material.
Workers must forbid all other acts such as welding or operating a torch with open flame daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This also includes operating a generator, chainsaw, or other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine for felling, bucking, skidding, processing, road building, woodcutting, and many more.
Those who violate the prohibitions will incur penalties for not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six months.
The order will be in effect from June 26, 8 a.m. until September 30, 2026 midnight, unless rescinded.
