Sacaton Fire Containment Is Now Up To 52 Percent

The Sacaton Fire is making progress, as it's more than halfway to containment. The fire started last June 21 and has been burning ever since.

Firefighters are gradually containing the Sacaton Fire, which has been burning since the last week of June, at 52 percent containment, covering approximately 10,000 acres. Crews are also conducting repair work.

The fire is currently estimated to cover 9,848 acres. In the previous report, the fire was at 9,675 acres with 35 percent containment.

After crews removed “slash” from the containment lines, firefighters started chipping lighter fuels and transporting the slash using dump trailers. An excavator was also employed to load a dump truck with heavier materials.

Turkeyfeather Mountain has recently experienced the most fire activity. Thanks to the rain that affected the entire east side of the fire, there has been some progress made in controlling it.

Meanwhile, the west side received a tenth of an inch, bringing the total to as much as half an inch.

Apart from this, improvements to road 119 are expected to be completed today too. Borsum Road or NM 159 is currently closed east of Mogollon to Willow Creek.

The fire started last June 21 and 162 personnel are working the fire as of Sunday.
