A teenager working as a barista full-time isn’t uncommon, but this 17-year-old, Natalia Jurado, is brewing up her career by running her own coffee trailer.
Jurado is a student at Rio Rancho High School and online at Central New Mexico Community College and owns Pink Pour Co. Back in February, she started serving specialty drinks from home.
Jurado said that when the orders started piling up in their home, their tiny space couldn’t take it anymore, so they decided to open a trailer.
And by early June, the Pink Pour Co. trailer opened for business.
According to her, he wakes up at around 4:30 a.m., hitches the trailer, and makes a cold foam. They don’t use whipped cream and use all of their homemade syrups and everything else. She is also in charge of not-so-fun stuff.
She never knew about the business system; she never knew about permits, business licenses, or the gross receipts tax you have to file every single month. These things became overwhelming for her, and she has cried multiple times in her truck. Despite the setbacks, she reminds herself that it is for herself and to build a community.
She is delighted to have gained quite a few regulars, and she’ll need them this fall.
Everything is under her mom’s name, but once she turns 18 in September, everything will be transferred to her.
A Future in Lowe’s Parking Lot
Her startup business is at the Rio Rancho Lowe’s parking lot. Her mom helps her out when she has time. And Jurado plans to pay her mom back for helping get the trailer opened.
Despite her business, she is still pursuing her studies as a high school senior online this fall, in addition to her online class at CNM.
To her, wasting time is not an option as she gets older. So she is starting to build her future now.
