Are you a parent or student looking for free school supplies in Albuquerque? The Presbyterian Health Plan and Presbyterian Medical Group are hosting two back-to-school events. There, you can receive free school supplies. Attendees can also access vaccinations and community resources.
KOAT Action News reported that the free celebrations will take place on Friday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 8. Children can get backpacks filled with school supplies while supplies last. They can also access health services, enjoy family activities, and connect with local organizations before the upcoming academic year.
Additionally, families will receive more than free backpacks and supplies. They can also enjoy complimentary food, interactive cooking demonstrations, games, active play activities, face painting, and other family-friendly entertainment.
The first event takes place on Friday, July 31, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Health Plan Place – Winrock, 2100 Louisiana Blvd. NE.
The second celebration will happen on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Health Plan Place on 6100 Pan American Freeway NE.
Saturday School Supply Distribution
According to a separate KOAT Action News report, the city of Albuquerque will hold its annual “Cruzin’ Into the School Year” event on Saturday, Aug. 1. The event aims to help families prepare for the new school year.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families can visit the West Mesa Community Center at 5500 Glenrio Road NW or the Community Center at 7505 Kathryn Ave. SE.
Organizers will distribute thousands of free backpacks and school supplies to students while supplies last.
West Mesa Community Center leaders say they distribute at least 1,500 backpacks annually.
“As we all know, everything is very expensive these days,” Therese Chavez said. “So we’re just hoping that this event can ease that financial burden for families and also just to hear from different resources that will help them throughout the school year.”
Families must pre-register to receive free backpacks and school supplies while supplies last. Students must be present to receive their backpack and supplies.
