A 15-year-old girl died and three others remain critically injured following a high-speed crash involving two vehicles in southwest Albuquerque early Sunday.
The teenager was riding in an orange Ford Mustang shortly before midnight Saturday when the car allegedly ran a red light at Coors Boulevard and Bridge Boulevard SW before slamming into the passenger side of a white GMC pickup.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and found several people trapped inside the mangled vehicles. All four people involved were taken to hospital in critical condition.
The 15-year-old passenger in the Mustang later died from her injuries, police said, while the second girl, 16, who was also in the Mustang remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
The 18-year-old male driver of the Mustang was critically injured but has since been listed in stable condition. But the 24-year-old driver of the GMC remains in critical but stable condition.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department, the Mustang was traveling south on Coors Boulevard when it went through the red light at Bridge Boulevard and struck the pickup.
Police have not released additional details about the vehicle’s speed.
The crash has left another family mourning and three other victims fighting for their lives as the department’s Fatal Crash Unit is investigating the collision.
